Macbecin I is a macrocyclic ansamycin antibiotic that acts as a potent HSP90 inhibitor, disrupting the function of this molecular chaperone by binding to its ATP-binding site. This inhibition leads to the degradation of several oncogenic client proteins, contributing to its strong antitumor and antimicrobial activity. Originally isolated from actinomycetes, Macbecin I has shown efficacy against various cancer models and microbial organisms.
